David Nyamasyo Kitonga and Monica Ndunge Kitonga, bishops residing in the United States, face allegations of fraud amounting to Sh 15 million.
The charges against the Kitongas involve significant financial misconduct.
David Nyamasyo Kitonga, and Monica Ndunge Kitonga, a US-based couple who are alleged to be Bishops, were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts, where they faced charges of defrauding Sh 15 million. The couple appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
According to the charge, on the diverse dates between 1st of September 2023 and 24th of October 2023 at Mbiuni in Machakos county with intent to defraud, you jointly obtained from Gabriel Njenjere Chokera wooden Tng timber valued 15, 199 240 by falsely pretending that you were in a position to pay a fact you know to be false.
The complaint through his lawyer Henry Kurauka informed the Court that the 2 had recently opened a resort at Machakos worthy of over 1 billion the money they believe is a proceed of crime.
Kurauka also told the court that the accused persons are frightened and, therefore, should be granted stringent bond terms.
The accused, through their lawyer, pleaded with the court to release them with reasonable bond terms, saying that they have invested heavily and so they are not frightened.
However, the prosecution did not oppose them being released on bail, and the court released them on a cash bail of ksh 500 hundred thousand or a bond of 1 million each.
